JARED COONS Obituary

COONS, JARED BARTLETT, 58, of Warwick, passed away at home on Friday August 8th, 2025. Jared was a devoted father to Lauren Phelps of Danielson, Connecticut; Alexis Coons of East Providence; and Camryn Coons of Cranston. He was the beloved son of Dix S. Coons and the late Lela B. Coons of Warwick.

Jared was a cherished brother to Sara Scott of Cheyenne Wyoming, and her late husband, Alan; Thaddeus Coons and his wife Lynn of Warwick; and Nathan Coons of Warwick. He was predeceased by his sister, Catherine “Cata” McKinnon. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Brandon and Ellie, children of Lauren and Pat Phelps. Jared leaves behind many nieces and nephews who brought joy to his life: David, Hannah, and Andrew, children of Sara and Alan Scott; Lilly, daughter of Thaddeus and Lynn Coons; Christopher McKinnon, son of the late Catherine McKinnon; and Evan and Elijah, sons of Nathan Coons.

He spent his childhood summers traveling cross-country with his family. Jared loved doing gymnastics and running cross country track where he shined at both. Jared spent his early adult years as the owner and general manager of multiple establishments in Providence, including DeJaVu, Keg Room & Challenges Sports Bar. He was a hands-on boss that always ensured his business and employees had what they needed to succeed.

You could typically find Jared on his riding lawn mower, giving his kids and their neighborhood friends rides, building something, or working on one of his vehicles in the driveway…always with a pair of sunglasses and baseball hat on. Jared loved spending his time outdoors and taking on projects, whether that was helping renovate the basement to make room for his grandson, or simply fertilizing his lawn for the 3rd time in a month, he stayed busy. He took pride in taking each of his 3 daughters to their father daughter dances, driving them to and from school, and making sure they had what they needed (and wanted!)

Unfortunately, Jared struggled with severe neck pain for a good amount of time toward the end of his short life. He was unable to physically work but that did not stop him from trying to stay busy. Even when he was unable to be physically present in his family’s life he did his best to stay included, whether that was involving himself in the less physical activities like giving rides, grabbing lunch or just taking it easy on the couch soaking in the time with his loved ones.  Jared leaves behind a memory of a man who worked and loved hard. Who did what he could, with what he had available. A memory of a man who cherished his family. A man who had flaws just like everyone else, but truly was an incredible person who will be missed by everyone that had the pleasure of crossing his path.
