JOAN R. MENDES

MENDES, JOAN R. (RICE) 90, of Read Avenue, Coventry passed away at the Westerly Hospital on Friday, May 20, 2022. Born in Coventry, she was the daughter of the late Arthur R. and Ella C. (Swanson) Rice.

A lifelong resident of Coventry, Joan was a graduate of Coventry High School in 1949. Joan was employed as a stenographer at the University of Rhode Island before retiring. She was an active member of the Pawtuxet Valley Community Chorus for over 25 years. Joan was proud to be an accomplished self-taught musician and able to play a wide range of musical instruments. Joan was also a very spiritual person. Joan was a dedicated mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She was always there for her family.  

Joan is survived by her daughter Diane M. Mendes of West Warwick, granddaughter Coral M. Magiera and her husband Shane; a grandson Noah M. Mendes; and a great-grandson Elijah.

She was the sister of the late Donald Rice. She was the aunt of Cheryl, Donna, and David and was very close to them.

A Visitation will be Thursday morning, May 26, 2022 from 9:00 am to 10:30 am with a Service at 10:30 am in the IANNOTTI Funeral Home, 415 Washington, St. (Rte.117) Coventry. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery in Coventry.  iannottifh.com
