JOANN (VICKERS) COATES, 90, of West Warwick, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, April 30, 2026 while surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Herbert E. Coates.
Born in North Attleboro, Massachusetts JoAnn was the loving daughter of the late Albert and Virginia M. (Landry) Vickers.
Always a hardworker, JoAnn worked as a young woman at the former Rocky Point Amusement Park and Ames Department Store. Naturally gifted with mathematics and numbers, JoAnn also worked in the accounting field and helped many navigate through their finances and bookkeeping needs. Above all, JoAnn was a dedicated and loving mother who always put her family first. She will truly be missed.
JoAnn is survived by her loving children Howard Whitmarsh (Kristine), Cheryl Borges (Michael), Maureen Bradford, Alan Whitmarsh (Gary), William Whitmarsh (Kathy), Cynthia Bianco (Ralph Jr.), Dawn Thibodeau (Burt), and John Coates (Monica). Leaving behind a legacy of love, JoAnn was the loving grandmother of 19, great grandmother of 24, and great great grandmother of 6.
Funeral services and burial at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter are respectfully private. Arrangements are by the Iannotti Funeral Home.
