BIRCH, JOHN, 95, Passed away on May 4th, 2020 and another U.S. Marine reported to St. Peter at the Pearly Gates. John (Jack) Birch was born in 1924 to John and Louise (Santos) Birch in New Bedford MA.
He moved to Providence when he was 5 years old and resided in Coventry for over 60 years. Jack, a WWII veteran, enlisted in the Marine Corps and saw action with the 3rd Marines in the Pacific Theater participating in the Battle of Guadalcanal. After an honorable discharge, Jack, a proud Teamster, drove trucks for the A&P Company for the next 35 years before being employed by Fleet National Bank until his retirement.
Jack was at his happiest having martinis and cigars in the backyard with his children, adult grandchildren and friends.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife, Cecile (Lavoie) Birch of 50 years and children; John Birch of Farmington, CT, Dennis Harper and his wife Kathy (Kate) of Coventry, with whom he had a very special relationship, Linda Palmer and her husband Frank of Osprey, FL, Jackie Mercer and her husband Bill of Newburyport, MA, Robert Birch and his wife Karin of Stanwood, WA, and Thomas Birch of Auburn, NY. Jack and Cecile had 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. John was predeceased by his two twin brothers Donald S. and Roger T. Birch.
Due to the current restrictions, funeral services and interment with full Military Honors at RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter, are private. Arrangements by Iannotti Funeral Home.
