JOHN GRILLI Obituary

GRILLI, JOHN, 88, of West Greenwich, passed away peacefully at the Hope Health Hospice in Providence, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, December 14, 2024. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late John J. and Frances (Martino) Grilli.

After graduating from Classical High School, class of 1954, John enlisted in the United States Marine Corps serving during the Korean War. After an honorable discharge, he went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree from Rhode Island College, and later a Master’s Degree from the University of Maine in Orono. John was a respected educator teaching Industrial Arts as well as Computer Science at West Warwick High School for over 38 years before retiring.

John, being naturally athletic himself, coached the West Warwick High School Boys Track & Field team during his tenure at the school. He also coached at Bryant College and RI College. John had a keen interest in coaching his three daughters in the East Greenwich Girls Softball League when they were growing up, along with being a caring and dedicated grandfather to his four grandchildren. He also enjoyed following the New England professional sports teams.

John loved music. He was an accomplished pianist and violin player. He also enjoyed working in his yard, gardening, and growing and maintaining his apple trees. He liked tinkering and repairing most anything. Lastly, John savored a fine cigar while relaxing on his porch.

John was the father of Sharon L. Wainman and her husband Aaron of Fort Myers, Florida, Sheryl R. Green and her husband Michael of West Greenwich, and Lauren F. Grilli of East Greenwich. He was the grandfather of Chase J. Wainman, Amanda J. Wainman, Madeline R. Green and Molly E. Green. John was the brother of Michael Grilli of West Palm Beach, Florida; and  the dear uncle to Lisa Ruggierio, Michael, David, and Steven Grilli.
