JOHN W. HARRIS

HARRIS, JOHN W., 83, of West Greenwich, passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. He was the loving husband of 51 years to Joan C. (Sozanski) Harris. 

Born in Pawtucket, John was a son of the late John L. and Lucy (Ringland) Harris. 

Always inquisitive, John was born with a natural mechanical ability. This led him to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and his Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. John spent his career working at industry leaders throughout the state of Rhode Island including Tower Iron, TACO, Gentex, and General Dynamics Electric Boat. 

In his spare time, John enjoyed nature and spending time outdoors. In his younger years, he enjoyed fly fishing and piloting his airplane. He was a member of the South County Rod & Gun Club for 45 years, where John was an instructor for the Junior Rifle Team and a member of the High Power Rifle Team. He also served his community as a Volunteer Firefighter in West Greenwich for many years. 

John was predeceased by his son, the late Michael John Harris. He was the loving father of Cheryl Harris Bucacci, her husband William, of Coventry, and Melissa Harris Nelkin of West Greenwich. Adoring grandfather of Jarrod, Kate, and Mia. He was the brother of Steven Harris and the late David and Thomas Harris.
