JOHN A. SANTANGELO

SANTANGELO, John A., 80, of Harbour Ave., passed away on Monday, January 27, 2020 at Rhode Island Hospital surrounded by his loving family.  He was the husband of the late Dorothy (Valenti) Santangelo and companion of Lynne Perry.

Born in West Warwick, he was a son of the late Aqualino and Petrina (Decesare) Santangelo.

John was a 1957 graduate of West Warwick High School. He was a dedicated supporter of local baseball programs having coached Little League for many years. He worked for many years as an accomplished photo engraver before changing careers to become a custodian with West Warwick Public Schools.  He retired in 2004.  John was an avid sports fan.  There was always a sporting event on his television screen, but his passion was for his beloved Boston Red Sox.  Not a summer night went by without the Red Sox game bellowing throughout the house.  His biggest thrill came in 2013 when he attended his first World Series game rooting his Red Sox on to victory.  Never was there a kinder man than John.  He loved his family immensely and held a special place in his heart for his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  The smile on his face when they were in his presence was wide and bright.  He enjoyed spending time at the health club socializing with his many friends, often having passionate discussions about the Yankees/Red Sox rivalry. 

He is survived by his children, John Santangelo, Jr. of West Warwick and Toni Mouat and her husband Travis of West Warwick; 4 sisters, Anna Betz of PA, Carmela Menard of FL, Mary Donlevy of West Warwick and Theresa Messier of West Warwick; 4 grandchildren, Korey Santangelo, Jessica Nieto, Katelyn Mouat and Timothy Mouat and 3 great-grandchildren, Ryker Dixon, Jiovanni Santangelo and Quinn Nieto.  He was a brother of the late Josephine Bodo, Luke Santangelo, Evelyn Lavoie, Christina Coppa, and Henry Santangelo.

His Funeral will be held Friday, January 31, 2020 at 9:00 am from the IANNOTTI Funeral Home, 415 Washington St. (Rte.117), Coventry, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Sacred Heart Church, West Warwick.  Visiting hours Thursday 4-8 pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s name to the American Heart Association (www.heart.org), 1 State St., #200, Providence, RI 02908 or the American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.org), 260 Cochituate Rd. # 200, Framingham, MA 01701 would be appreciated.
