John William “Jack” Bauer, born May 14, 1948, in New York City, passed away surrounded by the memories of a life defined by friendship, family, and a love of the water. He was the son of William and Genevieve Bauer of Harrison, New York, where he was raised and spent his early years. Summers were cherished at Vail’s Grove on Peach Lake in North Salem, New York, a place that remained close to his heart throughout his life.
Jack attended the University of Dayton and later graduated from Fordham University. He began his professional career with Mutual of New York in Syracuse before returning to New York City to work for Avon. Throughout his career he also pursued entrepreneurial ventures, bringing curiosity, independence, and determination to everything he did.
Jack found joy in being active and outdoors. He loved sailing, tennis, fishing, waterskiing, and especially swimming in Peach Lake during summers spent there with family and friends. Later in life he made Rhode Island his home, where he enjoyed time near the ocean and many days at Narragansett Town Beach.
He was known for his storytelling, humor, and easy ability to connect with people. Jack maintained lifelong friendships and strong ties with many wonderful people who remained part of his life over the years.
Jack is survived by his children, Liz Bauer, Max Bauer and his wife Lauren, and Debbie Bauer and her husband Justin Bezelj; his grandchildren, Samantha Bauer and William Bauer; and his sister, Janet Brownlee. He will be remembered for his warmth, his love of conversation, and the many friendships he nurtured throughout his life.
A celebration of Jack’s life will be held at a later date.
