GRANDCHAMP, JOSEPH N., 91, of West Warwick, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the Scalabrini Villa, on Friday, August 20, 2021. He was the beloved husband of nearly 70 years, to Lillian J. Grandchamp, who passed away on July 14, 2021. He was the son of the late Napoleon Grandchamp and Helen (McNabb) Grandchamp.
Joseph enjoyed football, baseball, fishing, a good meal, and social events amongst his dear friends and family. He served his country during the Korean War while in the 43rd Signal Co. He was a member of the West Warwick Recreation Committee, and past President of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick. He retired from General Dynamics- Quonset Point, and was also Treasurer and Past President of their 10 Pin Bowling League. Member of Club Frontenac, VFW 449, and a lifelong member of the American Legion Post-2. Joseph was a social person, whom was loved by all who met him.
He was the loving father of Paula Foster and her husband Bob; Wayne Grandchamp and his late wife Suzanne; and William Grandchamp and his wife Susan. Grandfather of Bobby Foster, Kelli Foster Crosby, and the late Billy Grandchamp; 5 step-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews all of whom he dearly loved. He was also predeceased by his brother Raymond Grandchamp, and his wife Cathy, and also his in-laws Marion Cayton and his wife Sally (Jones) Cayton. He is survived by his sister-in-law Amy Mills and his brother-in-laws Sellers Gurganus and Bill Highsmith all of Greenville, NC. He was predeceased by his sister-in-laws Arlene Gurganus, Dorcas Highsmith, and Mamie Ruth Cayton; brother-in-laws Wilbur Cayton and Marvin Mills.
Family and friends are invited to a visiting hour on Thursday, August 26, 2021 in the Iannotti Funeral Home, 415 Washington St. (RTE 117), Coventry, RI from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM, with a funeral service to begin at 10:30 AM. Burial with full military honors at the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. In lieu of flowers, donations made in Joseph’s memory to the VNA of Care New England Hospice (vnacarenewengland.org) would be appreciated.
