JOY GAFFNEY Obituary

JOY ELIZABETH GAFFNEY, 50, of Coventry, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her loving family at the HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center, Providence on Thursday, April 30, 2026. Joy was the beloved wife of Christopher P. Gaffney — his best friend. His only. His everything.

Born in Warwick, Joy was a daughter of C. Russell and Marilyn (Heon) Carr.

Having spent her professional career in banking, Joy worked first at People’s Credit Union and then for many years at Centreville Bank. In her spare time, Joy enjoyed spending summers on Johnson’s Pond, tending to her garden, and taking family trips to Disney World. Joy was a  passionate and dedicated mom, she was the loudest voice in the stands for her boys at every game. Throughout their marriage, Joy was simply always there—supporting Christopher in every sport and every activity he ever played.

Most of all, any time Joy spent with her family, especially watching her children and their many cousins grow up together was what she cherished most.

Besides her loving husband, Christopher, Joy is survived by her loving children, Tyler Patrick Gaffney and Aaren Thomas Gaffney. She will be deeply missed by her in-laws, Michael and Patricia Gaffney and her dear brother-in-law Michael all of Pawtucket.

Joy was the beloved sister of Stephen Carr, and his wife Kathleen, Jeremy Carr, his wife Stefanie, Matthew Carr, Benjamin Carr, his wife Jennifer, and Bethany Curran, her husband Matthew. “Auntie Joy” is also survived by her beloved 13 nieces and nephews; 2 great nephews, Atlas and Emerson. Joy is also survived by her beloved canine companions, Zero, June, and Meadow.

Funeral services are respectfully private. Arrangements are by the Iannotti Funeral Home.

“Found Joy, loved Joy, our hearts will always be filled with and by Joy.”
