JOYCE B. COONEY

COONEY, JOYCE B., 89, of Warwick, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at the Brentwood Nursing Home on Wednesday, February 5, 2025.  

Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late N. James and Vera (Pace) Conway.  

Joyce  was married to the late James “Pete” Cooney in 1959 and was a longtime resident of Warwick, RI. She was employed with Metropolitan Life Insurance for over 20 years. Always a woman of faith, Joyce was an avid parishioner of St. Rose & Clement Parish in Warwick. She was an avid sports fan, and an exceptional conversationalist. She loved meeting people and was always making friends wherever she went.   

Joyce’s greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was the loving mother of James F. Cooney III and his wife Lisa of Marshfield Hills, MA and Kathleen A. Cooney and her husband Mark A. Langley of West Palm Beach, Florida; and the proud grandmother of Samuel James Cooney and Molly Margaret Cooney, whom she adored.  Sister of Edna Cavagnaro, and the late Dorothy Dolan, Robert Conway, Gordon Conway, and James Conway. Joyce was the loving aunt of Patricia and Charles “Chris” Mathewson, Sharon and Arthur Muldowney, and several other beloved nieces and nephews.    

Joyce will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her greatest legacy was her love and devotion for her family, having never missed an event for her children and grandchildren. May she rest in peace. 

Committal Prayers will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at 11:00 AM in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 301 South County Trail, Exeter. Family and close friends are invited to gather at the main entrance of the cemetery at 10:45 AM.
