MARIA GLORIA (BRAGA) COSTA

COSTA, MARIA GLORIA. 88, of Cedar Drive, West Warwick, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at the West View Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Joao F. Costa in 2004. Born in Sao Miguel, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Francisco and Antonia (Melo) Braga.

Maria was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Seeking a better way of  life, Joao and Maria immigrated to the United States in 1970. They worked hard to provide for their family.  Maria was employed as a machine operator for 20 years at Leviton Manufacturing in Warwick before retiring in 1990, to begin caring for her soon to be seven grandchildren. She was proud of her Portuguese heritage, had a strong Catholic faith, and she was an active parishioner of Saint Anthony Church for over 50 years. Maria enjoyed traveling with her sister Leonia to many spiritual and religious destinations throughout the Northeast. She also liked to vacation in New Hampshire and Vermont. 

Maria was the mother of Frank Costa (Isilda), Gloria Costa, John Costa, Duarte “Ed” Costa (Donna), Joseph Costa (Candy), Donna Costa (John Brousseau), and the late Mary Lou Costa. She was the grandmother of Amanda Ford, Frank Costa Jr., Mary Trafford, Michael Costa, Ryan Costa, Nathaniel Costa, and Alexis Costa. Maria was the great-grandmother of Livia Costa. Maria was the sister of Fatima Medeiros, Leonia Cidade, Maria Lima, and the late Conceiao Braga, Luis Braga, Jose Francisco Braga, Mary Lou Deus, Joe Braga, and Joseph Francisco Braga II. 

Her funeral will be on Friday, February 27, 2026 at 8:45 am from the IANNOTTI Funeral Home, 415 Washington St. (Rte.117) Coventry, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Saint Anthony Church, 1 Sunset Avenue, West Warwick 02893. Interment at Notre Dame Cemetery, West Warwick will be private. Visiting hours will be on Thursday evening from 4 pm to 7 pm.
