MARIA BERNICE (PISCIONE) MONTALBAN, 59, of Coventry, R.I., passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Maria was born in Providence, R.I., to Bernice M. (Consiglio) Piscione and the late Joseph V. Piscione. She was their cherished daughter from the day that she was born.
Maria was the beloved wife of Claudio J. Montalban, whom she shared 36 beautiful and fun-filled years of marriage with. Their love and devotion towards each other has been and always will be an inspiration to their family.
Maria was the mother of Marissa M. McGill, and her husband Christopher J. McGill, of Coventry, R.I. Marissa and Maria were best friends and could often be found shopping or running errands together, or simply discussing every aspect of their daily life. Maria supported Marissa in every way that she possibly could, and was a shining example of what it means to be a mother.
Most importantly, Maria was the adoring Nana to Greyson McGill and Mariella “Ella” McGill. Her grandchildren were her entire world and her greatest joy, and her impact on them could never be forgotten. Her grandchildren would like everyone to know that their “Nana is now in Heaven and at peace.”
Maria also leaves behind many dear family members, as well as friends who became family, especially those with whom she shared over 40 years of laughter-filled friendship with.
Maria worked for many years at Park View Middle School in Cranston, R.I., as an administrative assistant. She loved going to work every day and seeing her coworkers, who became her close friends over the years.
Maria loved constantly being on-the-go. She enjoyed visiting the casinos to play the slot machines, going shopping, spending the summer at Bonnet Shores Beach Club, going to the movies or out to eat with her husband, and traveling, especially to Disney with her grandchildren as recently as last month. She will be remembered for her strength, laugh, protectiveness, candor, work ethic, and loving personality. Her family joked that she knew someone everywhere she went, a quality that she shared with her late father.
Above all, Maria made sure she took care of her family. Whether it be picking up her grandchildren from school, planning holidays and celebrations, making sure everyone ate and was where they needed to be, attending every one of her grandchildren’s events, or countless other examples, she always put the needs of her family before her own. Maria will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Family and friends are invited to Maria’s Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, December 31, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Saints John & Paul Church, 341 South Main St., Coventry, R.I.
