MOFFITT, MELANIE MARIE, 48, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday morning, November 7, 2024. Born in Providence, she was a cherished daughter of Victor G. and Bertha C. (Wolf) Moffitt.
Melanie Graduated from Coventry High School in 1997. For over 30 years, she was an athlete in the Rhode Island Special Olympics, participating in Track & Field and Basketball. In 1995, she was a Rhode Island Delegate for the World Games that were held in New Haven, CT. She was a longtime member of Project Friends in Coventry. Always trying to better her community, Melanie enjoyed volunteering at the Coventry Senior Center, helping distribute warm meals for Meals on Wheels, and also helped at the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Vincent de Paul Church, where she volunteered in many capacities including passing the basket during Mass. She was very proud to work alongside her dad, as his Campaign Manager, for all of his elections. Mel loved traveling and meeting new people. She enjoyed visiting Greece for her parents 50th wedding anniversary, going on cruise vacations, and she especially enjoyed a memorable five week cross country road trip in 1988 where she visited nearly all 50 states with her parents and siblings.
She was the sister of Kevin L. Moffitt, and his wife Kate, of Delray Beach, FL, Brian A. Moffitt, and his wife Patricia, of Coventry, and Mary E. Quackenbush of Coventry. She was the special Auntie of Ashlee, Zachary, Dante, Keegan, Asher, Brighton, Cahir, Braelyn, and Darwin; Great Auntie of Gavyn, Brixton, and Maddox.
Her funeral will be Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at 8:45 AM from the IANNOTTI Funeral Home at MAPLE ROOT, 2000 Nooseneck Hill Road (Route 3), Coventry, with a Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Saint Vincent de Paul Church. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, West Greenwich. Visiting Hours, Tuesday 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM.
