MELODY ANN (MELLO) ATWOOD

ATWOOD, MELODY A. (MELLO) 77, of Coventry, RI passed away at Kent Hospital in Warwick, on Sunday, April 6, 2025. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 18 years, Wayne L. Atwood in 2020. Melody was also the former wife of the late James W. Hargraves. Born in New Bedford, MA, she was a daughter of the late Alfred D. and Stella (Klecha) Mello.

Melody graduated from New Bedford High School with honors in 1965. She then graduated from the former Plus Business School in 1966. After a hiatus, Melody returned to school and graduated with honors earning an Associate’s Degree in Science in Business from the Community College of Rhode Island in 1985. Melody was employed in the Accounting Department for Citizens Bank in Smithfield before retiring. In her career, she also worked in accounting at Creative Games International and Santander Bank. 

Melody loved to spend time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren. She was a joyful person, always positive and she truly saw the best in people. Melody was adventurous, loved to travel, garden, care for her pets, and all animals.

She was the mother of Katie M. Hargraves and her husband Matthew Sojka of Londonderry, NH, Kara A. Hargraves and her husband Howard Brennan of East Providence; and the stepmother of Lana B. Fontaine of East Greenwich, and Wayne L. Atwood Jr.  of Warwick. She was the grandmother of Charlotte S. Sojka, Noah M. Sojka, Brandon A. Fontaine, Grace A. Atwood, and Chloe E. Atwood. 

Visiting hours will be Friday morning, April 11, 2025 from 8:30 am to 10:00 am, with a Funeral Service at 10:00 am in the Iannotti Funeral Home at MAPLE ROOT, 2000 Nooseneck Hill Rd.,(95/exit 18/Rte.3) Coventry. Interment at the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter. iannottifh.com
