MICHAEL W. HAMEL

MICHAEL W. HAMEL, 78, of West Warwick, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2026 at Kent Hospital, Warwick.

Born in Providence, Michael was a son of the late Roger Sr. and Irene (Deblois) Hamel.

After graduating from high school, Mike proudly enlisted in the United States Airforce in 1967 and served during the Vietnam War, being Honorably Discharged in 1983. Mike then went on to spend over 3 decades working for Hoecht Chemical before his retirement. 

Above all, Mike will be remembered for his love and respect for animals. He rescued Boxers and was featured on television for his work with rescuing, rehoming, and rehabilitating dogs.  

He was the loving father of Shena H. Hamel of Lutz, Florida and Michael W. Hamel Jr. of Warwick, RI. He was the brother of Larry Hamel of Cumberland, Richard Hamel of Woonsocket, and the late Roger Hamel. Mike is also survived by his beloved cat, Sandman, and his grandpuppies, Brutus and Rex. 

Inurnment at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter will be respectfully private.
