On May 3, 2021, Master Sgt. John D. Florenzano from Coventry was called to his heavenly home at the age of 82. He passed peacefully surrounded by the endless love of his family.
He was the beloved husband of Pia (Lang) Florenzano and cherished father of Mario and Vinny Florenzano. In addition to his loving wife, John is survived by his brother Anthony and wife Maria, his six grandchildren , his great-grandson, sister-in-law Beate Kalish, Nephew George Kalish as well as extended family and countless friends.
Born on August 4,1938 in Bristol, John was the dear son of the late Andrew and Antonia (Albino) Florenzano. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his siblings Alphonse, Peter, Mary and Lucia.
A childhood native of Bristol, John enlisted in the Unites States Army at 17 and was deployed to Saigon, Vietnam to the position of infantryman, he was also in charge of the mess hall where he quickly caught the eye of high ranking officials and had the distinct honor of being the personal chef to the base commander and his family. John proudly served the country he loved for 30 years throughout the globe, he retired as Master Sargent at the conclusion of his military career and was awarded numerous medals including the Bronze Star.
Following his retirement from the Army, John settled in Coventry with his two sons, solely raising them to adulthood. John attained his bachelor's degree from Johnson Whales university. With a wealth of knowledge and experience, he was employed by the State of RI Department of Health for 20 years.
John was a sincere man of conviction whom could easily be asked for sound advice. He loved animals and always had his dogs by his side. John had a contagious sense of humor and brought much love, laughter, and smiles to all those around him.
Visiting hours, while observing Social Distance Guidelines, will be held Friday, May 7, 2021 from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM in the Iannotti Funeral Home at Maple Root, 2000 Nooseneck Hill Rd. (RTE 3), Coventry. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM in the funeral home. Burial with military honors will take place at St. Joseph's Cemetery, West Greenwich.
