NEKITA J. FEARNS

FEARNS, NEKITA J., a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on August 15, 2024, at the age of 67, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her closest friends and family, leaving behind a legacy of love and warmth. 

Nekita was born on July 15, 1957, in Newark, New Jersey, the daughter of the late Penelope Ross. Her early years were spent under the loving care of her grandparents, Dorothy and George Nichols, on their cherished farm in Bridgeport, West Virginia. It was there that her enduring sense of community and hospitality began to flourish. 

In a twist of fate that would define her future, Nekita met and fell deeply in love with Paul J. Fearns. Together, they made Coventry, Rhode Island their home, where they raised their two children, Dana E. Centolella and Paul J. Fearns Jr., affectionately known as PJ. Her heart swelled with pride and joy for her granddaughter, Nekita M. Centolella, sharing not only a name but an extraordinary bond. 

Nekita’s home was a beacon of warmth and joy, famously known as “Nikki’s Nut House.” Whether hosting grand celebrations or intimate gatherings, she had an unmatched ability to make everyone feel welcomed and cherished. Her laughter, her love for entertaining, and her unique talent for turning any occasion into a memorable event made her home a place where many found comfort and joy. 

Nekita’s impact extended beyond her immediate family to lifelong friendships that she treasured deeply. She will be profoundly missed by her brother, George J. Nichols III, her niece, Bobbi Basile, and her childhood and life long best friend, Melanie Dumont. Her ability to cultivate both a family and a community with her kindness, humor, and unwavering support will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing her. 

Nekita is survived by her devoted husband, Paul; her children, Dana and PJ; and her granddaughter, Nekita M. Centolella. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew her and through the countless memories she created.

Family and friends are invited to visiting hours on Saturday, August 24, 2024 from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM, with a Funeral Service to begin at 11:00 AM, in the Iannotti Funeral Home at MAPLE ROOT, 2000 Nooseneck Hill Road (ROUTE 3), Coventry, RI. Burial at Greenwood Cemetery, Coventry.
