NICOLA FRACASSA Obituary

FRACASSA, NICOLA, 87, of Cranston, passed away peacefully at Rhode Island Hospital, with his loving family by his side, on Saturday, October 21, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Domenica (DiRocco) Fracassa. The couple were married for 52 years.

Nicola was born in the Italian colony of Libya (Garian) in 1935. He was the son of the late Gerardo and Ida (Moretta) Fracassa. As a young boy, he was taken from his parents along with many other children and brought to Italy to be taught and enriched about the history and greatness of Italy. He was returned to his parents in Libya when he was eleven where he began studying his trade as a tailor. Nicola eventually served in the Italian Army as a truck driver and barista. He immigrated to the United States of America in 1962 and eventually became a U.S. citizen.

Nicola was a master tailor owning and operating shops in Providence, Cranston and later in East Providence. He was known for always wearing a tie and a hat. His many loyal customers addressed him as “Niki the Tailor” for which his tailor shops were named. Nicola loved to share his many stories of his life growing up in both Libya and in Italy. He was always quick witted and ready to tell a joke. Nicola enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, playing Italian cards and spending time with his family.

Besides his adoring wife Domenica, he is survived by his loving daughter Ida G. Marchetti and her husband Gino of Cranston; and his loving grandchildren Ethan and Emily Marchetti. Nicola was the brother of Anna Fracassa of Casalbordino, Italy. Although he was short in stature, he lived a large life. He will be greatly missed and forever loved.
