PLOUFFE, NORMAND A., 87, passed on Friday, August 27, 2021 at the Androscoggin Hospice in Auburn, Maine. Born January 6, 1934 in Coventry RI of Wilfred and Nellie (Arcand) Plouffe. Norm was predeceased by his wife, Marion (Gammon) Plouffe, son, Normand (Butch) Plouffe Jr., parents and siblings Rita Lucier, Leo Plouffe, Claire Lucier, Robert Plouffe and George Plouffe. He is survived by his daughter Annette Gil; grandchildren Angela and Richie, Jason Deus and Amie Marie Garland and four great grandchildren.
Out of school Norm proudly served his Country for four years in the United States Air Force. He was a Korean War (1952 – 1953) veteran having flown as a tail gunner on a B29. Norm spent 40 years in the oil business, first as a serviceman for Pawtuxet Valley Oil and then with DeBlois Oil where he was manager of the East Greenwich branch for 25 years. He was especially fond of his two Diane’s who took the best care of him. Following the family example Norm was very involved in local government serving as Vice Chairman of the Coventry Police Commission, 2 terms as the Coventry Town Sargent and 3 years on the Coventry Republican Town Committee. Norm thoroughly enjoyed his time as a volunteer fireman for 40 years with the Anthony Fire Department serving 25 years as the Deputy Chief.
Upon retirement Norm made a home in Dunnellon FL. He was joined after a couple of years by Joanne Fecteau of Steep Falls, Maine. Together they spent the next 14 years camping, going to auctions, chasing yard sales, and playing cards. He is survived by his “adopted” family Kathrine and Chester Brooks, Dianne and Steve Day and six granddaughters Casey (Brooks) Buchanan, Brittany (Brooks) Harmon, Morgan (Brooks) Welch, Jennifer (Day) Morris, Elizabeth (Day) Romano, and Allyson Day.
A Visitation will be Saturday morning, September 4, 2021 from 8:30 am to 9:45 am with a Service at 9:45 am in the Iannotti Funeral Home at MAPLE ROOT, 2000 Nooseneck Hill Rd., (Rte.3) Coventry. Interment with military honors at the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter.
