January 27, 1971 ~ January 24, 2025 (age 53) 53 Years Old

PAUL HARTLEY Obituary

HARTLEY, PAUL “PJ”, 53, of Exeter RI and formerly of Coventry and West Greenwich, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, January 24, 2025 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was the loving husband of Sharon A. (Maguire) Hartley for 29 beautiful years. He was the proud and loving father to Emma R. Hartley and Megan S. Hartley.


Born on January 27, 1971 in Warwick, RI he was a son of the late Harry W. “Ziggy” and Shirley M. (Bonhomme) Hartley. He was the son-in-law of Robert H and Elaine A Maguire of West Greenwich. A graduate of Coventry High School (‘89), where he met his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Sharon. He went on to graduate from Plymouth State College (93) with a Bachelor of Science. Paul had a successful, lifelong career in manufacturing leadership, with his most recent position as Vice President of Operations & Engineering for Polyvinyl Films (Stretch Tite).


PJ and Sharon married in 1995 and went on to have two beautiful daughters. Paul was the Vice President of Exeter West Greenwich girls’ youth softball. He coached his daughter, Emma’s EWG Strikers soccer and EWG youth soccer leagues. Paul was also a proud dance dad to Megan and never missed one of her performances. Paul was an avid New England sports fan and enjoyed golfing and skiing with family and friends.


Most recently, PJ became an enthusiastic cyclist participating in several Pan-Mass Challenges, leading team Ocean State Cancer Crushers to raise over $500,000 for the Dr. Bradley McGregor Research Fund at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Along with many family and friends, Paul was the proud co-founder and Vice President of the non- profit Ocean State Cancer Crushers. OSCC’s mission is to inspire philanthropy towards the elimination of cancer through research, treatment, and support. Paul was very passionate about helping to find a cure for cancer.


Of all his accomplishments, he was most proud of his marriage and family. He was the epitome of what all husbands and fathers should be. Paul has impacted the lives of all those that knew him.

Paul is survived by his sister, Paula A. DeRuosi (John) of Cranston, Richard W. Hartley Sr. (Colleen) of Hernando, Florida and predeceased by Michael P. Hartley. Paul was the brother-in-law of Andrea Langford (Michael), William Maguire and Michelle Maguire. He was the best uncle, great uncle and godfather to his many nieces and nephews.


A Memorial Service will be on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 9:00 am in the Iannotti Funeral Home at MAPLE ROOT, 2000 Nooseneck Hill Rd., (95/exit 18/Rte.3) Coventry. Interment at St. Joseph Cemetery in West Greenwich. Visiting hours are Friday evening, January 31, 2025 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
