Phyllis would eventually go on to receive her Masters degree in science. Her love of science started when she broke her leg skiing and began a bachelor’s degree at Merrimack College. Despite her injury, her love of skiing started then as well. She spent many hours skiing the trails at Sunday River in Bethel, ME where her and her husband Bob had a second home where they spent most of their winter weekends. If Phyllis wasn’t downhill skiing she was cross country skiing or finding new friends to socialize with.
Phyllis’s career spanned roles at the Bryman School, Saint John’s Preparatory, Suffolk Community College and a few others. When she finally landed at Endicott College in Beverly, Massachusetts she realized she had found her home. She spent the next 30 years as a professor teaching Biology, Anatomy and Physiology and Bioethics classes. Her passion was infectious and earned her teacher of the year, an honor she was very proud of.
After raising her three daughters in Andover, Massachusetts, Phyllis and her husband Bob built a house and retired in Grantham, New Hampshire where they spent lots of time sailing, canoeing, snow shoeing, kayaking, skiing, running, walking, hiking, relaxing, traveling, volunteering and just enjoying life.
Phyllis was passionate about education and so passionate about science. Even in her declining state she would perk right up if you asked her any sort of science question. She loved sharing her knowledge with her 6 grandchildren, Joseph, Jared, Madison, Grace, Jacob and Jayden and also loved making cookies with them. Nothing brought her more joy then a trip to Eastman Lake with her grandchildren in tow.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Bob and her daughter, Jessyca Katz of Cumberland, RI. She is survived by two daughters, Robyn Adelman and wife Mary Kamitian of Melrose, MA and Danyca Penick of Cumberland, RI, Son in law Ian Perlman of Cumberland, RI and her sister and brother in law, Nancy & Norman Levine of Albany, New York, her brother Jeffrey Levin and his partner Debra Lerner of Newton, MA as well as nieces and nephews and her beloved grandchildren.
There will be a burial service at The New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery on Wednesday, April 14th at 2pm.
