ARSENAULT, RAYMOND J., 70, of Providence, passed away at The Miriam Hospital on Tuesday, August 22, 2023. A lifelong resident of Providence, he was a son of the late Raymond O. Arsenault and Anna M. Arsenault and the brother of the late William Arsenault, all natives to Providence, RI.
Raymond, Ray to all the people who knew and loved him, was born in the Mt. Pleasant section of Providence where he lived from childhood to adulthood and was still in the same home for over 50 years until his passing. His brother and himself were well known in the neighborhood, they were newspaper boys.
Ray was educated in the Providence schools. He went from elementary school, to Mt Pleasant High School, then on to Rhode Island College of which he received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Science as well as teaching. He also studied at the Community College of RI of which he earned a certificate in Business. He worked a variety of jobs however the job he loved the most was being a handyman helping other people. Ray also served on the Friends of Mt. Pleasant Friends board for several years as President, then a board member assisting with whatever programs we did for the library (Mt.Pleasant/CLPVD). He had many friends who will sadly miss his presence.
Ray has left behind his beloved friend of 26 years, Sharon M. McMaugh of Lincoln. Although Ray was a bachelor, Sharon’s grown children over the years began to think of him as a father figure. This being said, he was the stepfather of David E. McMaugh and Shannon L. McMaugh. Ray thought the same of them as well. He will be greatly missed by the people who knew and loved him as a great person all around.
