Raymond Pouliot passed peacefully at home in Richmond, Rhode Island, surrounded by those who loved him, at the age of 65.
Born in 1960, in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, Raymond was the youngest of seven children born to Raymond E. and Rolande T. (Lamoureux) Pouliot. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents.
Raymond devoted his entire career to public service through the United States Postal Service. He began as a letter carrier in Pawtucket, where he served for more than 17 years, and later moved into management. After 31 years of service, he retired in 2018 as Postmaster of New London, Connecticut. He took pride in his work, in serving his community, and in doing his job well. He believed in showing up, doing right by people, and earning a living through honest work. Even in retirement, Raymond could usually be found tending to his farm, raising chickens, goats, pigs, and cows, never one to sit still when there was work to be done. He also remained committed to civic life as a member of the Richmond Board of Canvassers, continuing his lifelong dedication to serving his community.
More than anything, Raymond was proud of his family. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Pouliot; his stepson, Justin Saccoccio and his wife Gül; and Linda O’Neill, with whom he shared his children: Jonathon Pouliot and his wife Deanna, Curtis Pouliot-Alvarez and his husband David, Thomas Pouliot and his wife Maria, David Pouliot, and Michael Pouliot, as well as nine grandchildren, who brought him great joy and pride.
He is also survived by his siblings: Edward Pouliot and his wife Marlene, Nancy Vanasse and her former husband Ted Hedley Jr., Judy Johnson and her husband Fred, Robert Pouliot and his wife Carol, Susan Giguere and her husband Richard, and Ronald Pouliot and his wife Rachel. He also leaves behind too many nieces and nephews to count.
Raymond’s legacy will live on most clearly in the children he raised and the values he instilled in them. He never shied away from hard work and spent his life providing for his family without complaint, making sure his children not only had what they needed, but had the opportunity to thrive. He was deeply proud that his children carried forward a strong work ethic, a devotion to family, and a sense of responsibility to others. He took great pride in the men they became and in the lives they built as successful, resilient, family-focused men. That same spirit also led him to open his home as a foster father to dozens of children over the years, extending his care and guidance far beyond his own family and offering yet another example of a life rooted in service.
He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, foster father, and public servant. He was proud of the life he led and the family he helped shape. He believed in family, duty, and faith, and he left behind the kind of legacy that was built quietly over time through love, sacrifice, and showing up for the people who counted on him.
His family finds peace in the promise of eternal life and comfort in knowing that he has gone home to God.
