RICHARD J. HUGHES, 85, of West Warwick, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 30, 2026. He was the beloved husband of nearly 48 years to the late Doris (Noel) Hughes.
Born in Providence, Richard was a son of the late Joseph and Myrtle (Flodin) Hughes.
After proudly serving his country in the United States Marine Corps, Richard owned and operated Hughes Roofing before spending a twenty year career at General Dynamics Electric Boat - Quonset Point. He then went on to work for Nooney Controls, North Kingstown before his retirement.
In his free time, Richard enjoyed taking camping trips with his family around New England and wintering in Fort Myers, Florida. He was a member of VFW Post 449, the Crompton Veterans Organization, the American Legion Post 2, American Legion Post 323 Lehigh Acres, FL, and was a longtime member of the West Warwick Elks Lodge 1697. Always being social, Richard also enjoyed conversation with his many friends at J J’s Cafe, West Warwick. Richard enjoyed time spent outdoors whether golfing at Rolling Greens Golf Course or fishing. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.
Richard is survived by his daughters, Lisa Hughes of Cape Coral, FL and Tracy Lewis and her husband Cameron of Taftville, CT, and the late Sharon Madden. Grandfather of Devin Savard of Panama City, FL. Brother of the late Paul Hughes, William “Bill” Hughes, and Thelma Gaccione.
Family and friends are invited to visiting hours on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM, with a funeral service to begin at 11:00 AM in the Iannotti Funeral Home, 415 Washington Street (ROUTE 117), Coventry. Committal prayers and Military Funeral Honors to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, West Warwick.
