BONIN, ROBERT F.J., 76, of West Warwick, passed away at the Greenwood Center in Warwick on Monday, April 22, 2024. He was the husband of Pauline D. (Volpe) Bonin for 53 years. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Robert M. and Rachel G. (Coutu) Bonin.
After graduating from West Warwick High School, Robert enlisted in the United States Navy and served in the Vietnam War. After an honorable discharge, he went on to employment as a welder and fabricator for thirteen years at the Brown & Sharpe Manufacturing Company.
He later worked for Electric Boat in North Kingstown for six years, the Fagan Overhead Door Company, and the International Tool & Machine Co. Robert was also a skilled self-employed plasterer. Robert served in the Army National Guard of Rhode Island for fourteen years as a Sergeant in the 861st Engineer Company, before an honorable discharge.
Robert was a true outdoorsman. He enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed attending many Rhode Island Indian Pow Wows.
Robert was the brother of Roger E. Bonin and his wife Louise, Richard L. Bonin and his wife Mary Ann, all of West Warwick, and the late Annette I. Bernier. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Services followed by interment with Military honors at the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter will be private. Memorial donations to the VNA of Care New England Hospice, 51 Health Lane, Warwick, RI 02886 would be appreciated.
