ROBERT BOTELHO Obituary

BOTELHO, ROBERT W., 89, of North Providence, passed away peacefully with his beloved son by his side on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at Heritage Hills Rehabilitation & Health Care Center, Smithfield. He was the loving husband of 39 years to the late Emelia A. (Scungio) Botelho, who predeceased Robert in 2007.  

 

Born in Somerset, MA, Robert was a son of the late Manuel and Josephine (Furtado) Botelho. 

 

Robert grew up in Warren, RI, and after attending Warren High School, Robert proudly enlisted to serve his country in the United States Air Force where he served four years before continuing his service in the Rhode Island National Guard. After his Honorable Discharge, Robert met his wife, “Mimi”, and they raised their family in the Silver Lake neighborhood in Providence. He continued his service to his country as a Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service. He was also the Vice President and former Treasurer of the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 15.     

 

In his spare time, Robert enjoyed the sport of golf. He was a member of the John Dickson Memorial Golf League for five decades, where he won several league championships and was known for his impeccable short game. He was also an avid boxing fan, and enjoyed watching championship fights with his son. Robert loved traveling with his son, frequenting flea markets throughout the region, listening to music and watching old television shows with his late wife “Mimi”. Above all, he was a loving and dedicated father. As a lifelong animal lover, Robert was predeceased by his beloved Doberman, “Tasha”. 

 

Robert was the loving father, and best friend of Robert C. Botelho of North Providence. He is also survived by his beloved in-laws, Roger V. Scungio and his wife Jean, of Johnston, Alexander A. Scungio, his wife Janice, of North Providence, and the late Fred L. Scungio, his wife Rosanne of North Providence, Angela Petteruti, Veronica Paolino. Robert also leaves behind his nephew and godson, Roger M. Scungio of North Kingstown, Robert J. Massa of Warren, RI and Port Charlotte, FL, and many loving nieces and nephews.  Robert also leaves behind his cousin and lifelong friend, John Costa, and his wife Janet, of Warren, RI, and several close longtime friends.

 

Family and friends are invited to Robert’s Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, March 27, 2026 at 11:00 AM in St. Bartholomew’s Church, 297 Laurel Hill Ave., Providence, 02909. Burial with Military Funeral Honors at St. Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston will be respectfully private. Arrangements by the Iannotti Funeral Home.
