ROBERT CARR Obituary

CARR, ROBERT E., 93, retired Sergeant RI State Police, formerly of Coventry, passed away with his loving family at his bedside in North Port, FL. on Wednesday, March 19, 2025. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth A. Carr. Born and raised in Narragansett, RI, he was a son of the late Charles and Veronica (Leahy) Carr.

He was the father of Mary E. Carr (Trish Kennedy-spouse) of Venice, FL,  Robert (Bob) Carr, Jr. of   North Port, FL, John (Jack) F. Carr of Colorado Springs, and the late Eileen A. Carr. He was the grandfather of Robert C. Carr, Caleb J. Carr, Logan J. Carr, and Rachel A. Carr. Robert was the great-grandfather of Bennett J. Carr. He was the brother of Raymond Carr and the late Charles Carr.

Robert enlisted in the Navy December 1950 and was honorably discharged in October 1954 (Korean War Veteran).  He enlisted in the Navy as he saw his older brother, Chuck, drafted in the Army and wanted to control his service to his Country.   He was a member of the 1956 Rhode Island State Police Academy Class.   He retired in 1982 with the rank of Sergeant (badge #14) after 25 years of service to the citizens of Rhode Island.  In the early 1970's, he received a distinguished award for valor, along with two other Troopers, for saving three individuals from drowning in icy water.  He was the oldest living RISP Trooper at the time of his passing.  Also, in his younger days, he was a talented chainsaw operator and utilized his skills for side work to help support his family.

Robert raised his 4 children in Coventry, RI from 1960-1989.  He moved to North Port, Fl in 1989.  His Catholic faith was extremely important to him.  A parishioner of Saints John and Paul Catholic Church in Coventry, RI for almost 30 years and a parishioner of San Pedro Catholic Church in North Port, FL for 35 years.  He was a very generous, caring and loving husband, father and grandfather.  Bob, as everyone called him, was an extremely generous man with his time and his resources and will be fondly remembered for his "quick wit" and "joking humor".   He would always assist a colleague, neighbor,  friend or family member in need anyway possible without hesitation and with a smile on his face. He was an avid powerboater and an avid fisherman.   Also,  he loved completing large puzzles, playing board games, and played all card games especially bridge, poker and cribbage.  Also, he enjoyed visiting a casino now and then to play slots and table card games (he was very lucky and won more often than he lost).
