COTNOIR, Robert L. “Bibbits”, 97, of Coventry, passed away on Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at Alpine Nursing Home. He was the husband of the late Stacia (Bolek) Cotnoir.
Born in Coventry, he was a son of the late Mathias and Laura (Fortin) Cotnoir.
Robert was a milkman for various Dairy Companies, including the former Sunshine Dairy before joining the Army. A WWII veteran, Bibbits was a paratrooper and was transferred to the OSS (Office of Strategic Services) where he jumped into a fight with the French underground in 1944 and then went to China in 1945 before being honorably discharged. Following the service, he worked at Cranston Print Works and in 1964 he began working as a batchmaker at Hoechst Chemical for 22 years before retiring in 1986. While at Alpine Nursing home, Bibbits enjoyed singing and he lead the saying of the Rosary.
He is survived by his son, Robert D. Cotnoir and his wife Denise of Coventry; son-in-law, Steve Picard; a granddaughter, Stephanie Harrison and her husband Richard and a great-granddaughter, Madison Cotnoir. He was the father of the late Ann M. Picard, grandfather of the late Matthew B. Cotnoir and brother of the late Arthur, Clarence, Roland, Norman and Raymond Cotnoir, Irene Cotnoir and Doris Di Carlo. He is also survived by his best friends, Richard and Gail Tellier.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, November 30, 2020 at 10:00 am in Our Lady of Czenstochowa Church, Coventry. Interment with Military Honors will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, West Warwick. Visitation will be held Sunday, November 29, 2020 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm in the IANNOTTI Funeral Home, 415 Washington St. (Rte.117), Coventry. Covid 19 restrictions (face masks and social distancing) will be required. In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Vincent de Paul Society/Coventry, 445 Washington St., Coventry, RI 02816 would be appreciated.
