ROBERT P. GERING

GERING, ROBERT P., 88, of Coventry, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 24, 2025 at Kent Hospital, Warwick. He was the loving husband of 63 years to the late Florence (Hitte) Gering who predeceased Robert in 2021. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late William Gering and Theresa (Lynch) Devine. 

After graduating from Central High School in Providence, Robert  proudly served his country in the United States Army. After being Honorably Discharged, Robert continued in the Defense Sector,  spending his career at General Dynamics Electric Boat, where he retired as a foreman. A natural born athlete, Robert enjoyed playing softball and loved coaching the West Warwick Steelers, having much success throughout his tenure. He was a lifelong fan of the Green Bay Packers,  and a good piece of pastry. Above all, any time he was spending with his family is what he cherished most. 

Robert was the loving father of Darlene Chatell (Ronald) of Coventry,  David Gering of Rehoboth, MA,, and the late Douglas Gering. Loving Papa of Matthew Chatell, Catherine Gering, Alyssa Gering, Daniel Chatell, and Kayla, Julia and David Gering; great-grandfather of 3. Robert was the brother of William Gering, Dorothy Peterson, and Michael Gering. 

Visiting hours will be held Thursday, October 30, 2025 from 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM, with a Funeral Service to begin at 4:30 PM in the Iannotti Funeral Home, 415 Washington Street (ROUTE 117), Coventry, Rhode Island. Burial at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter is respectfully private.
