ROBERT J. "BOB" HOLMES, SR.

HOLMES, SR., ROBERT J. “BOB”, 92, of Jamestown and formerly of West Warwick, passed away at Kent Hospital surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, July 25, 2024. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 68 years Jean D. (Wilkie) Holmes in 2020. Born in West Warwick, he was a son of the late Joseph and Rita (Proulx) Holmes.

After graduating from West Warwick High School in 1950, Robert went on to serve in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After an honorable discharge, he attended Nichols College. Robert was a registered Jeweler, a member of the American Gem Society and former proprietor of Holmes Jewelers, a family business spanning for three generations. Upon retirement, Robert and Jean resided in Jamestown, and loved to golf and travel.

Robert was a past president of the West Warwick Lions and past Zone Chairman 42nd District Lions International. He was a past president of the West Warwick Scholarship Fund Committee. In 1966 Robert was awarded Outstanding Young Man of the Year by the West Warwick Jaycees. He was a member of the Board of Corporators, a Trustee and served on the Board of Directors at Centreville Bank. Robert was the oldest living member of the Valley Country Club, where he began his membership in 1950. Robert was a past president of the Rhode Island Golf Association. He also belonged to the American Legion Post #2 and Club Frontenac.

He was the father of Robert J. Holmes Jr. (Paula) of West Warwick, David A. Holmes (Crissy) of Florida and Diane J. Miller (Toby) of West Warwick. He is also survived by his grandchildren Perry Miller (Beckie) and Alexis Miller (Adam).
