ROY, ROLAND JOSEPH NORMAND, 93, of Ethel Ave., West Warwick, passed away at Kent Hospital on Monday, November 29, 2021. He was the beloved husband of Eilene P. (Hurry) Roy for 70 years. A lifelong resident of West Warwick, he was a son of the late Oscar and Jeanne Roy.
After graduating from West Warwick High School, Roland served in the United States Marine Corps in both WWII and the Korean Wars. He was honorably discharged attaining the rank of Sergeant. Roland was employed as a field superintendent with numerous commercial contractors for over 42 years before retiring. He was a 50 year member in the Carpenters Union Local 94. Roland was a communicant of Christ the King Church, a church he helped construct. He served on the board of trustees and belonged in the choir as part of the music ministry. Roland was an accomplished athlete and Babe Ruth baseball manager. His Brindamour’s team won 34 consecutive games during the 1969 - 1970 seasons. He was a past member of the Valley Country Club where he served on the Board of Governors.
He was the father of Donald E. Roy (Gloria) of Palm Beach, Florida, Gary R. Roy, Cheryl A. Ciccone (Orlando), all of Cranston, and the late Denis R. Roy. He was the grandfather of Tracy Calise, Derrick, Darcey, and Nathan Roy. Roland is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He was the brother of Ronald Roy, Jeannette Greene, Jacqueline Pulit, Monique Ek, Anne-Marie Lennon, Lorraine Roy, Roger Roy, and the late Theresa Dube, Marguerite Roy and Gerard Roy.
His funeral will be Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 8:45 am from the Iannotti Funeral Home at MAPLE ROOT, 2000 Nooseneck Hill Rd. (Rte.3) Coventry, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Christ the King Church. Interment with military honors in St. Joseph Cemetery in West Greenwich. Visiting hours are Friday evening 4 -7 pm.
