SPRAGUE, RUSSELL G. JR., 61, of Coventry, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, April 25, 2021. Born in Providence, he was a son of Russell G. Sr. and Dorothy (McGuirl) Sprague.
Russell was a commercial truck driver, machinery mover and co-owner of Sprague Brothers Trucking, he also drove for Arnold Lumber, and Earth Products for many years. He was an avid fan of drag racing. He earned his NHRA Competition License in 1996 and never lost a single race, and was an accomplished hockey goaltender. He was affectionately known as “Mayor of Motorhome Hill” at New England Dragway.
He is survived by his brother, Greg S. Sprague, of Coventry; step children, Michelle and Jason Tourgee, grandson Andrew Cahoon and loving nieces Morgan Head and Mari-Kate Sprague.
Visiting hours, while observing Social Distance Guidelines, will be held Saturday, May 1, 2021 from 3:00PM - 5:00PM in the Iannotti Funeral Home, 415 Washington St. (RTE 117), Coventry. A memorial service will take place within. A celebration of Russell’s life will take place at the Sprague’s home at 20 Ernest St., Coventry, immediately following the services, food and beverage will be served.
