ELBY, THOMAS A. “TOM”, 72, of Richmond, a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at home on Friday, July 26, 2024 with his wife Jeanne by his side. He was the husband of Jeanne M. (Alexandrowicz) Elby for 37 years. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Thomas A. and Irene (Stanish) Elby.
Thomas graduated from Mount Pleasant High School, class of 1969. He went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Rhode Island College. Tom worked in hospitals for most of his life and ended his career in Worcester, Massachusetts as Director of Environmental Building Services at the UMASS Medical Center. Upon retirement, Tom established a small business selling musical instruments and equipment worldwide.
Tom was a lifelong musician and had a great love of all music genres. He played acoustic and electric guitars in various bands in Rhode Island including Rhythm City and in New Hampshire playing in the Tom Dixon Band. Tom’s most recent endeavor was with his grandson Alexander as they entertained family and friends with their band Young Alex and the Boomers. As a proud Papa to his three grandchildren, Tom encouraged them to learn and develop a musical skill of their choice.
Tom was multi talented and over the years he would take on numerous home renovating projects with adept skills. He was an avid fan of the Providence Bruins, Boston Bruins, Boston Celtics and the N.E. Patriots.
Tom was the caring father of Christina J. Elby of West Warwick, and Jessica E. Elby. He was the adoring Papa to Gabriel J. Elby, Alexander J. Elby and Santana J. Seastrom-Elby. He was the brother of Adele Gallo of Providence, Diane LePore of Johnston, Anthony C. Elby of North Providence, and the late Alan, Alexander and Earl Elby.
Tom gave freely of his heart and time and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him, but he will never, never be forgotten. Tom’s family would like to thank all the nurses, CNA’s and Staff at the VNA of Care New England Hospice for the loving and compassionate care bestowed upon Tom during his final days.
Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, August, 7, 2024 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm in the Iannotti Funeral Home at MAPLE ROOT, 2000 Nooseneck Hill Rd.,(Rte.3) Coventry. The family requests in lieu of flowers, to consider making a donation to one of Tom's three favorite charities: Feed the Children, St. Labre Indian School, or Crossroads RI.
