GOSTOMSKI, THOMAS J., age 82, of Deer Run Drive, Coventry, passed away at Kent Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, December 28, 2025. He was the husband of Sheila A. (Milan) Gostomski. They were happily married and inseparable for 59 years. Born in Baltimore, Maryland on January 1, 1943, he was a son of the late John L. and Antoinetta (Jaworski) Gostomski.
After graduating from High School in Baltimore, Maryland, Thomas enlisted in the United States Navy serving during the Vietnam War. After an honorable discharge, Thomas went on to enlist in the Rhode Island Army National Guard where he served for over 25 years as a computer specialist with top secret credentials, Honorably discharged in January 2003 as a Sergeant First Class. Thomas graduated from Johnson & Wales and Rhode Island College, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. He taught Vocational Education at Central High School in Providence, at the Adult Correctional Institution in Cranston, and he was a substitute teacher at Coventry High School.
He also had been a past president and treasurer of the Silver Lake Little League, and a CYO basketball coach at St. Bartholomew's and St. Mary’s on Broadway, both in Providence. Thomas was a dedicated parishioner of Saints John & Paul Church. He was a Third Degree Knight of Columbus, Monsignor Blessing Council. Thomas was accomplished at golf, playing for over 30 years. He belonged in several leagues, and he was a member of the East Greenwich Country Club and Rolling Greens Golf Course. He also enjoyed bowling and he had belonged to the Holy Name Society and Saints John & Paul bowling leagues. Thomas had a special ability to make anyone of all ages smile. He loved to engage with people, especially those who have served in the Military. Thomas loved spending time with his family, especially his three grandchildren.
Thomas was the father of Kimberly A. Porter and her husband Christopher of Savannah, Georgia, Marissa L. Bianco and her husband Thomas of East Greenwich, and the late Thomas J. Gostomski Jr. He was the grandfather of Thomas O. Bianco, Sophia M. Bianco and Gavin R. Gostomski. He was the brother of Stephen Gostomski and his wife Deborah, of Baltimore, Maryland. Thomas was predeceased by nine other brothers and sisters. Thomas is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be on Saturday morning, January 3, 2026 at 9:00 am from the Iannotti Funeral Home at MAPLE ROOT, 2000 Nooseneck Hill Rd.,(95/exit 18/Rte.3) Coventry, with a Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 am in Saints John & Paul Church. Interment with military honors, at the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter. Visiting hours are Friday evening, January 2, 2026 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. iannottifh.com
