KUMES, THOMAS J., 79, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at the HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center, Providence. He was the devoted husband of 59 years to the love of his life, Pauline C. (Blanchette) Kumes.
Born in Camden, New Jersey, he was a son of the late John M. and Edith V. (Schrapper) Kumes.
Thomas served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War on the USS Northampton CC-1. He was an electrician at Electric Boat, Quonset, retiring after 29 years in 2001. Thomas was the Past President of the German Club, and was a member of the East Natick Veterans Club, Pasco Senerchia Post 74 American Legion, and the Coventry-West Greenwich Elks Lodge #2285. Thomas enjoyed traveling the world with his wife to places such as Alaska and Hawaii. He was a longtime fan of the New England Patriots and Boston Redsox.
Thomas was the father of Thomas J. Sr., and his wife Raquel of Cranston, Timothy John and his wife Taiya of Tennessee, and Todd J., and his wife Donna of Rumford.
Brother of Edith Eldridge of New Jersey, and the late Jack Kumes (Rose), Janet Franchi and Katheryn (Taffy) Browkowski. Grandfather of Thomas J. Jr, Tyler John, Tatum J., Dylan J., Avery Grace, and Camryn Reese Kumes.
Thomas was a patient, doting, kindhearted man with a big sense of humor.
Thomas’s funeral will be Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at 8:45 AM, from the Iannotti Funeral Home AT MAPLE ROOT, 2000 Nooseneck Hill Road (RTE 3), Coventry, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Saints John & James Parish, 20 Washington St., West Warwick. Burial with Military Funeral Honors at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours Monday from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Thomas’s memory to HopeHealth Hospice (hopehealthco.org) would be appreciated.
