THOMAS EVAN LAWRENCE

LAWRENCE, THOMAS E., 57, a retired USMC Sgt., passed away at home, with his loving family by his side, on Tuesday, January 24, 2023. He was the husband of Robin M. (Reeves) Lawrence and the father of Jack T. Lawrence, Olin L. Lawrence and Brendan J. Reeves, (USMC Cpl.). Born in Troy, NY, he was a son of Ralph G. Lawrence and the late Penelope L. “Penny” (Hammes) Lawrence. Thom was the brother of Michael, Marc, and Steven Lawrence. 

Thom graduated from Bishop Hendricken in 1984. He went on to serve his Country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. Sergeant Lawrence is a veteran of the Persian Gulf War fighting in the Desert Storm Campaign. After an honorable discharge in 1995, Thom earned a Bachelor’s degree in communications and education from Rhode Island College in 2002. Thom was a communicant of Saints John & Paul Church, a dedication starting in his youth as an altar boy. He also taught English and Physical education at the Fr. John V. Doyle School for five years. He was involved with the YMCA as a Counselor and a Director. Thom was an outdoorsman, he established the Adventure Zone, this non-profit endeavor operated for over 15 years, and taught boys and girls survival skills, hiking, fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding, and camping. He loved his pets, especially his cat “Stitch.”

His funeral will be Monday, January 30, 2023 at 10am from the Iannotti Funeral Home at MAPLE ROOT, 2000 Nooseneck Hill Rd. (Rte.3) Coventry, with a Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in SS John & Paul Church. Interment with military honors at St. Joseph Cemetery in West Greenwich.  Visiting hours are Sunday 2pm - 5pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Father J.V. Doyle School, 343 So.
