VALERIE JEANNE (GILLET) SUGRUE

SUGRUE, VALERIE J. (GILLET), 80, passed away at Kent Hospital on Thursday evening, February 27, 2025. She was the beloved wife of John P. Sugrue for fifty years. Born in Bronx, New York, she was a daughter of the late Louis and Virginia (Walguernary) Gillet; and the granddaughter of the late Ernest and Marcelle Gillet. Valerie was the loving mother of Julie A. Fallon (John) of West Warwick, Laurie A. Belleville-Cunningham(Kenneth), and John P. Sugrue Jr., all of Coventry. She was the adoring grandmother of Eric Marold, Lisa Szymanski, Breanna Marold and David Marold. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren. Valerie was the sister of Louis Gillet of Long Island, NY, Michele Milton of Centereach, NY, Cindy Zanfardino of North Carolina, the late Marcelle Peltier and Robert Spano.

Valerie graduated from the former RI Junior College, and was employed for over 28 years as a social worker with the State of Rhode Island, before retiring in 1998. Valerie enjoyed walking and exercising, crafting, shopping, antiquing, and attending local yard sales. She enjoyed music and was accomplished at playing organ. Valerie also liked to play the slot machines at the nearby Casinos. She loved to entertain her family and friends, especially preparing annual Thanksgiving dinners.

Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 8:30am to 10:15am in the Iannotti Funeral Home at MAPLE ROOT, 2000 Nooseneck Hill Rd., (95/exit 18/Rte.3) Coventry, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in Saints John & Paul Church. Interment at St. Joseph Cemetery in West Greenwich. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org) would be appreciated. iannottifh.com
