VITO MANNA

MANNA, Vito, 94, passed away on August 2, 2018 at the home of his son surrounded by his family.  He was the beloved husband of Elvira (Fresolone) Manna to whom he was married for 68 years. Besides his wife, Vito leaves behind eight children:  Anna Kelly and her husband James, Gioacchino Nino Manna, Marisa Charboneau and her husband Edward, Teresa Copice, Gaetano Tony Manna and his wife Lenora, Cosimo Manna, Carla Manna and Giuseppe Manna, 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Born in Eboli, Italy, he was the son of Gioacchino and Anna (De Pasquale) Manna.  He was also the brother of the late Lilina, Concetta, Pina, Vittorio, Angelo, Cosimo, and Mario Manna.  Vito was a WWII Veteran in the Italian Army.  He immigrated to the United States of America on November 12, 1967 at the age of 44 with his wife and seven children ages 2-17.  Shortly after, his last son was born in the US.  Vito worked as a laborer for Ahlborg Construction Company for 22 years.  He never missed a days work due to injury or illness.  After a long days work, Vito would attend night school in order to learn English.  Vito was never afraid of hard work.  

Vito enjoyed the simple things in life, going to the beach and park with his family and canning the vegetables he and his wife grew in their garden, especially the tomatoes, which provided homemade tomato sauce for a years worth of Sunday dinners.   Vito was known as the “wine master” among his family and friends.  His wine was always in high demand.  Vito’s small stature and smile would brighten everyone’s day.  He was a compassionate soul who always had kind words to say about everyone.  

One of the most important things that Vito enjoyed was spending time with his family, especially helping to care for many of his grandchildren during their early years. He was the happiest when there was a house full of people talking, eating and spending time together,

The Manna family would like to express their thanks to the staff of Kent County Hospital and the VNA of Care New England who treated our father with dignity and respect.  

His Funeral will be held Tuesday at 8:45 am from the IANNOTTI Funeral Home, 415 Washington St. (Rte.117), Coventry, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Joseph Church, West Warwick.  Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Coventry. Visiting hours Monday 3:30 – 6:30 pm.In lieu of flowers, donations in Vito’s name made to the VNA of Care New England Hospice, 51 Health Lane, Warwick, RI 02886 would be appreciated.
