HARWOOD SR., WILLIAM R. 78, of Coventry for the last three years and formerly of Connecticut, passed away surrounded by his loving family, at the Westerly Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center on Saturday, December 28, 2024. He was the husband of Cheryl A. (Deming) Harwood. The couple were married in 1987, and have been together since 1976.
He was a son of the late Raymond J. and Catherine (Brayman) Harwood. William was a foster child until the late Lina Brown cared for him from the tender age of six until adulthood, growing up in Foster and Chepachet.
William was employed as a truck driver for many years with the Kingston Turf Farms in West Kingston and Peter Pan bus lines as a charter bus driver. He was a volunteer firefighter from the age of 18, and for many years he drove the Providence Canteen truck with great passion.
William loved spending time with his family, especially his nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was the caring father of William R. Harwood Jr. and his wife Kimberly and James Harwood. He was the proud grandfather of Marcus, Nichole, Timothy, Lindsey, Adriana, Trinity, Michaela, Morganrose, and Anthony. Proud great grandfather of Havana, Hazelynn and soon to be Penelope. He is also survived by his siblings; George Harwood, Clair Wasko, Deborah Patron, Raymond Harwood, Charles Taylor, Martin Taylor, Robert Taylor and Susann Biggs. He was predeceased by; John Wallace, Bonnie Taylor, Connie Jodoin and John Taylor.
