NORMAN A. DURRELL

DURRELL, NORMAN A., 96, of Hope Furnace Rd., Scituate, passed peacefully at home on Sunday, December 31, 2017. He was the husband of Doris L. (Lester) Durrell for 68 years.
Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Arthur and Mary Agnes (McMaster) Durrell.
Norman was employed as a toolmaker for the General Electric Monowatt Division at both Providence and Newport. He retired after 37 years of dedicated employment in 1984. Norman enjoyed 33 years of retirement. Norman was very proud to be a US Navy veteran of both WWII and the Korean War serving as a torpedoman on the USS Trutta. Norman graduated from Central High School in Providence. He was an avid golfer since sneaking on a golf course at age 14. Norman continued to play golf until 2016.
Norman was the father of Debra M. Durrell and her partner David Beller of Hope, and Norman A. Durrell and his fiancée Dotty Rowe-McStowe of Morriston, Florida. He was the grandfather of Samantha Maini, Nicholas Maini and Aaron Durrell; and the great-grandfather of Damon Durrell and Colten Durrell. He was the brother of the late Helen (Durrell) DiPetrillo, Kenneth, Robert and James Durrell. Norman is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and his best friend Joe DiCarlo.
His funeral services will be Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 10 am in the IANNOTTI Funeral Home, 415 Washington St. (Rte.117) Coventry. Interment with military honors at the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter. Visiting hours are Friday evening from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Hope Hospice & Palliative Care RI, 1085 N. Main St., Providence, RI 02904 will be appreciated.
