I had the privilege of knowing "Grammy" Bates since my son blessed our family by marrying her grand daughter, Kelly. She was an inspiration, and a life lesson in grace and courage, especially in her final illness. She will be sorely missed by her wonderful extended family, who cared for her with such unselfish devotion and love.

I first met Ruth at the wedding of my daughter to her grandson Kristopher. From the start I felt kindness and looked forward to sitting next to her at family gatherings to absorb her wisdom. Ruth was a remarkable woman; and I am so glad she touched my life.
